Adobe Express AI vs. Buffer: Two Useful Tools for Public Relations Professionals

By Aurelieus Golphin

Public relations professionals must create engaging content, communicate with audiences and maintain a consistent presence across digital platforms. Managing these responsibilities can be challenging, especially for independent professionals and small businesses working with limited budgets. Fortunately, free digital tools can help simplify content creation and social media management.

Two tools worth exploring are Adobe Express, which offers artificial intelligence (AI) features for creating visual content, and Buffer, a social media management platform that helps users organize and schedule posts. Both tools can support a PR professional’s workflow, but each has different strengths and limitations.

Adobe Express: AI-Assisted Content Creation

Adobe Express is a content creation platform used to design social media graphics, promotional materials, short videos and other digital content. Its AI features can help users generate designs, modify images, create text effects and develop visual concepts from written prompts. The platform also provides templates and editing tools that help users produce professional-looking content.

For PR professionals, Adobe Express can be useful when preparing promotional graphics for announcements, events, campaigns and personal brands. Instead of starting every design from scratch, users can customize existing templates and use AI features to explore creative ideas. This can help independent PR professionals produce content more efficiently.

Adobe offers a free version of Express with standard editing tools, templates, stock assets and limited daily AI generations. Adobe Express Premium is also available for $9.99 per month at the time of research and includes additional assets, editing features and 250 monthly generative credits. Pricing and available features may change (Adobe, n.d.).

One of Adobe Express’s greatest strengths is its combination of design tools and AI-assisted features. Its desktop and mobile versions allow users to work on graphics and other content from different devices. According to Adobe’s official plan information, the free version also supports social media scheduling for one account per social network.

However, the free version has limitations. Some premium assets and advanced features require a paid subscription, and AI generation is subject to usage limits. AI-generated content may also require editing to correct visual inconsistencies, improve accuracy or maintain a consistent brand identity. PR professionals should review all generated material before publishing it.

Buffer: Social Media Scheduling and Management

Buffer is a social media management platform that helps users plan, organize and schedule content across multiple social networks. Rather than publishing each post manually, users can prepare content in advance and place it in a publishing queue. Buffer also provides tools for organizing ideas, monitoring available performance insights and managing content.

For PR professionals, consistent communication is important when promoting campaigns, sharing announcements and maintaining relationships with audiences. Buffer can help professionals plan their social media calendars and prepare content for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X. This can be especially helpful for independent professionals managing their own brands.

Buffer offers a free plan that supports up to three social channels and up to 10 scheduled posts per channel. The plan also includes an AI Assistant, content ideas and other basic features. Paid Essentials and Team plans expand scheduling, analytics and collaboration capabilities. The published starting prices are $5 per channel per month for Essentials and $10 per channel per month for Team with annual billing; monthly billing costs more (Buffer, n.d.).

One of Buffer’s strongest features is its content scheduling system. Planning posts in advance can help PR professionals maintain consistency and reduce the need to switch between social media accounts throughout the day. Its free plan also provides a practical starting point for individuals and small organizations.

However, Buffer’s free plan has limits. The three-channel restriction and 10 scheduled posts per channel may not be enough for a professional managing several clients or running frequent campaigns. More advanced analytics and team approval workflows also require paid plans. Additionally, publishing and engagement features can vary depending on the social network.

Buffer offers a web interface and mobile apps for iOS and Android. The desktop interface is useful for reviewing a content calendar and organizing multiple posts, while the mobile app is convenient for checking content and managing tasks away from a computer. Some workflows and platform-specific publishing features may differ between devices.

Which Tool Is Better for PR Professionals?

Adobe Express and Buffer serve different purposes, so they are most useful when considered as complementary tools. Adobe Express focuses on creating visual content, while Buffer focuses on planning and publishing social media posts.

For a PR professional who needs attractive promotional graphics, Adobe Express is a useful starting point. For someone who needs to organize posts across multiple platforms, Buffer can help establish a more consistent publishing routine. Both offer free options, allowing professionals to explore their capabilities before committing to a paid plan.

Neither tool replaces the judgment and creativity required in public relations. Professionals must still verify information, consider audience needs, protect confidential information and ensure that every message supports the organization’s communication goals.

My conclusion is that Adobe Express and Buffer can help independent PR professionals work more efficiently while maintaining a professional digital presence. The best choice depends on whether the immediate priority is creating content, organizing social media publishing or improving both parts of the workflow.
